Sound rules everything around us, and yet we are constantly pushing sound design to the background.

Our practice recognizes the immense positive gains made when acoustic comfort, clear communication, and community resonance are prioritized in the design process.

Timbre Architecture & Sound works with developers, community stakeholders, business owners, artists, and architects to imagine the future of the built environment. Founded by architect Nicolas Sowers, Timbre is based in Seattle and works along the Pacific coast on a wide range of project types and scales.

Nicolas has over 15 years experience as an architect, and he has found that sound is one of the most overlooked aspects of design. He started his career exploring with microphone in hand the mosques of Istanbul and the maze-like cities of Morocco. His fascination with sound emerged from the experience of listening to these recordings, which produced a rich spatial experience that no photograph could capture. There is an invisible power with sound that Nicolas seeks to harness in his architectural work.

Together we ask: How should this space resonate?
